How to use it
- Type a name or pick a category.
- Enter the volume you want to make; every amount scales automatically.
- Copy the recipe or open the full method for step-by-step instructions.
For any buffer at a different pH or concentration, use the Buffer Preparation Calculator. For pharmacopoeial tests, follow the reagent and buffer recipes in your monograph.
Sources
Molecular-biology recipes follow the standard formulations in Cold Spring Harbor Protocols (TAE, TBE, TE, SSC, EDTA, PBS). Buffer recipes are calculated with the LabKit buffer model and checked against published tables. Volumetric solutions follow common laboratory practice; standardise them before use.
Frequently asked questions
Can I scale these recipes to any volume?
Yes – the amounts are simply proportional. For volumes below about 10 mL, make a larger batch or a stock solution, because small weights are hard to measure accurately.
Why does the recipe say “approx.” for HCl or NaOH?
When a recipe is adjusted to a pH, the amount of acid or base depends on your reagents and temperature. Add it slowly while watching a calibrated pH meter.
Are these the Indian Pharmacopoeia recipes?
No. These are general laboratory recipes from textbook and protocol sources. For a pharmacopoeial test, use the recipe given in the monograph or the reagents section of the pharmacopoeia.
